Christina Makoyawo is a self-taught fine artist whose work celebrates the ethereal beauty of West African femininity through a distinctive style she terms "contempluxe art™." As a first-generation American of Nigerian descent, Makoyawo weaves imperial, spiritual, and cultural elements from her heritage into each piece.
Her artistic journey began in New York City, where she pursued fashion design before taking a hiatus for academic studies. After a period of creative dormancy, Makoyawo returned to her artistic calling with renewed purpose and vision. Her signature style emerged from this renaissance, blending alluring figures with distorted visual effects, floral motifs, and traditional African prints to create mystifying compositions.
Working across multiple mediums—including ink, pencil, oil, and acrylic—Makoyawo crafts richly colored pieces that command attention through their regal presence. Her works serve as a bridge between contemporary artistic expression and her West African cultural heritage, creating enchanting visual narratives that resonate with viewers.
