This piece was inspired by the Gullah Geechee people and their enduring cultural traditions. Blue serves as a central element in the work, referencing its historical use as a protective color believed to ward away unwanted spirits. To further connect the painting to its West African roots, I incorporated Adire-inspired patterns in the background. By bringing together these visual traditions, the work reflects the lasting ties between West Africa and the African diaspora in the American South.
